The Hospital Stay

Greyson and I were in the hospital for 5 days. While we were there all I wanted to do was go home. But now that we're home I'm so glad we stayed that long. I feel fantastic for having just had a c-section. I can get in and out of bed no problem and do pretty much anything. This was not the case with Raegan and I much prefer it. We did get a little bored however. Here's a recap of the hospital experience.
Having a scheduled c-section does have its benefits. It's a little ridiculous that I did my hair and make-up for the event, but it did feel nice to feel pretty while we were there. When I look at these pictures I don't cringe like I do when I look at photos when Raegan was born. I was such a mess then. Here' me at 8:00 waiting. The anticipation was very strange. I didn't really know what to think. Surgery was scheduled for 9:30.
This is Derek in his operating room get-up. Very nice fit don't you think (he had the worst wedgie - they're not exactly made for people who are 6'6").
The surgery went well. Greyson was a a big guy and they really had to tug him out by pushing really really hard on my chest. It was hard to breathe then. All 9lbs 4 ounces of him made it out, but then he swallowed lots of junk to put it nicely. The doctors literally tried to beat it out of him (I'll always remember that sound - could it really be that loud?), but he still had some stuff in his lungs so they kept him in the nursery for a couple extra hours to make sure he was getting enough oxygen on his own. Unfortunately I never got to see him. Derek stayed with him and did come see me in recovery with pictures on the camera.
Greyson's 1st photo - not a very happy guy right now.
Our cute little astronaut - but definitely feeling much better at this point. Chilling in the nursery with Dad - finally weaned off the oxygen and feeling much better. Did I mention this whole time that I hadn't actually seen him yet! By then my mom and dad had brought Raegan and they actually got to see him first through the nursery window. Not fair! Anyway, I wouldn't let them hold him first. This is right after they wheeled him in for the first time.
And this is me holding him for the first time - FINALLY!
Nothing says hospital recovery like green Jell-O. I don't understand why they won't let you eat any real food for 24 hours.
First family picture. The first thing Raegan wanted to do was sit next to me in bed. She was excited to see Greyson and kept calling him "baby." However, the excitement soon fizzled and she became more interested with the control buttons on my hospital bed.
Raegan holding Greyson for the first time. She really likes holding her little brother and pointing to his eyes, nose, mouth, and head.
Greyson sporting his festive 4th of July onesie.
Heading home from the hospital. He definitely is our "little monkey."
While Derek and I were in the hospital, Raegan stayed at home with Grandpa and Grandma Adams. Needless to say she had a blast. To say she was spoiled is an understatement. Grandma insisted that Raegan get a swimming pool for the backyard to beat the summer heat, but deep down I think Grandma bought the pool so she had an excuse to be outside and tan. Raegan also got to go to an Aces ballgame and watch the 4th of July fireworks while mom and dad were cooped up in the hospital. Even after all the fun and time away from us, she still remembered who we were.

Yes, I finally cut her hair at one of those ridiculously expensive kid salons right before Greyson was born. It looks so much better don't you think. I'll have to add that to the list of things I still need to blog about.

First of all, I didn't know you didn't get to see Greyson until they brought him to your room. I'm sure you were DYING to meet him! Second, Derek's outfit pre-op is amazing. I got a good laugh. Three, Raegan looks like a mini Tristin & her hair cut is super cute. And Greyson changes in every picture! He is SO cute! Keep the pictures coming! I know it's harder with 2 kids, but I think he'll probably be crawling or something by the time I see him! And Raegan will probably be driving! ;) Love you guys!

He has totally changed since he was born. We've loved getting to be close and hold him. He really is so cute and a pretty good boy. XOXO, Mom (Johnson)
